With this year's Folk Festival just over 2 month's away we're thrilled to announce some new names to this year's Line Up. Take a read to see who will be joining us in the picturesque grounds of Cherry Hinton Hall this July.
Acousitic guitraist Benjamin Francis Leftwich is set to perform on Thursday when he appears on Stage 2. Raised in the Yorkshire countryside in the North of England, Benjamin finds inspiration for his music in his home county. Ben moved away two years ago, heading for Tottenham in London. “Yorkshire’s beautiful,” he says, “that scenery and the coast and the air will always inspire my music, but I don’t have to be there. I lived it and breathed it for a while.”
We welcome Daoirí Farrell, winner of 'Best newcomer' at the 2017 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Daoirí performed live at the awards ceremony at London's Royal Albert Hall.
Also joining the line up are Daphne's Flight, the group were formed in 1995 after the five members each found themselves at the festival. They decied to sing some songs together and they quickly formed a distinctive and unsual blend of voices, they perform on Stage 2 on Saturday.
Other artists who have joined the bill are Josie and Pablo, winners of the 2017 BBC Radio 2 Folk Award Young Folk Awards, Canadian singer Darren Eeedens and the Slim Pickin's and fiddle/piano combination Charlie Grey and Joseph Peach. Threepeny Bit will also be performing as part of the Kid's Ceilidh on Stage 2 on Friday.
Completing this latest line up announcement is New Orleans Funk Master Jon Cleary, originating from Kent, Jon moved to New Orleans and immersed himself into the funk music scene there. An accomplised guitarist, keyboardist and deepley soulful vocalist he set to perform on Sunday on the Main Stage.
